Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah, is an American actress, rapper, and singer. Her performance as a singer, music as well as a film and television artist has won the actress the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also received a Grammy Award and six other Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was born in and was raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita a schoolteacher who worked in Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. a police officer. Latifahs parents split up at the age of Latifah, then ten years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah was her stage name when she was eight years old. The word means extremely delicate in Arabic. Latifah is who was 5'10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. in a school show, she sang Home from The Wiz. Latifah began beatboxing with the women's fresh rap group. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of a team of MCs led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, recorded a version of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps is Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah during that time and was awed by the track. In 1988 she released Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
